Welcome to our “Get to Know Advanced RPO” series! Want to know what makes Advanced RPO special? It’s our people, and you’ll get to meet them, one at a time.
Today let’s meet Dieter Crowley. Dieter is a Senior Technical Recruiter with nearly 20 years of experience in recruiting. He’s a guitar enthusiast, U.S. Army Veteran, and has a true passion for helping people reach their career goals in the ever-evolving technical world. Let’s hear what Dieter has to say about recruitment and working for Advanced RPO.
What’s wonderful about working for Advanced RPO?
The best part of working for Advanced RPO is the variety of challenges one gets to appreciate. Your skills and experience are not only used in a truly comprehensive way, but you get the additional benefit of developing your craft in areas you might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy. Your efforts are recognized both individually and for the collaboration you provide with the teams you help support.
What do you enjoy about recruiting? What drew you to this field?
Recruiting is actually my second career. I retired from the National Weather Service in 1997 after 25 years as an operational meteorologist. My goal was to change careers, and a friend of mine, who was a successful technical recruiter, got me my start. I immediately took to the profession because I enjoy the ever-evolving technical world and challenges, while helping others pursue their career goals. As a U.S. Army Veteran, I also appreciate helping other military veterans transitioning into civilian occupations.
What do you think makes an exceptional RPO recruiter?
A true passion for recruiting, tenacity, strong work ethic, creative approach to problem solving, enjoying helping people with their career goals, and willing to work whenever you are needed. You have to be flexible and willing to change directions quickly whenever support requirements call for it. It’s an extremely satisfying endeavor for the right individual.
How do you see the recruitment marketplace changing right now? What do you think is one of the most important trends in recruiting?
Over the past decade candidates have become more sophisticated with regard to their career goals and choices. The market is always fluctuating, and depending on your recruiting expertise/focus (industry) you’ll be challenged with those changes every year. Social media is driving the focus for a more balanced process between employer and candidate whereby candidates are just as interested in what each company has to offer as the employer is about its candidate requirements. This trend has given rise to generally higher quality talent, and equally increasing quality with compensation packages and company work environments.
What advice do you have for anyone who is looking for a new job?
Be confident in your skills and background, and focus on roles that are well suited for your experience and related goals. Recognize that you will often have significant competition for a particular job you are applying for, so make sure you do your homework which includes focus on your skills and presentation but also studying and understanding the company you are interested in. Be yourself and don’t try to reflect what you think others might want to see in you.
Why would someone want to work with Advanced RPO?
For the right person, the work is very rewarding, and our team is second to none in the industry. Your efforts and hard work will always be recognized and appreciated, and you’ll find pride in being part of a truly unique and amazing group.
Life is crazy. What keeps you sane? How do you recharge?
By never taking life for granted, enjoying and appreciating quality time with family and friends, and setting aside time on a regular basis for my two favorite hobbies; shooting, and playing guitar.
